Static Triaxial (Unsaturated/stress path)
Soil samples shear strength evaluation is performed by static triaxial apparatus. In this apparatus, all readings and loadings are automatically carried out and saved as an excel file. Stress ratio & velocity at consolidation level is selected by user, so in addition to existence of isotropic condition, all types of isotropic consolidation can be performed. CU, CD & UU tests are the most well-known tests that can be done by this apparatus according to ASTM D2850 & ASTM D4767. Due to controlling all-around stress, all stress paths can be performed in q-p. In apparatus software 4 successive phases can be defined that each one can match with specific stress path that is applied in drained or undrained condition. Another important feature of this apparatus is that test results are saved as graphs with arbitrary axes during the test is running. It’s worth noting that in this apparatus moisture control and suction is done by transfer of axis method. Soil investigation and shear strength evaluation in unsaturated condition, evaluation of moisture content, SWRC determination, permeability and other relevant issues to unsaturated soil mechanics can be conducted by static triaxial apparatus. This apparatus can be promoted to mechanical wave velocity measurement system.
